    About the Utrecht rental market

Utrecht is compact, central and therefore intensely competitive. The city has the highest student-room occupancy in the Netherlands, combined with a growing group of young professionals drawn to the national rail hub at Utrecht Centraal. Inside the canal ring supply is scarce and floor plans are small; Lombok, Oog in Al and Tuinwijk form the next ring out and move almost as fast. Leidsche Rijn and Overvecht offer more square metres for the same budget, often in new-build complexes managed by a single landlord. Because the city itself is small, competition spills quickly into Nieuwegein, Zeist and Houten whenever renters cannot find anything within Utrecht.
